A unique approach

Since the age of 8 years old I have worked closely with horses. I was channeled through the usual path of hunter/jumper, did youth competitions and scooped a lot of poop. I wasn't much of an award winner because for me, the love of being with horses had nothing to do with winning or competing but rather the feeling of being in the company of such an incredible animal. I continued my work with horses as I traded labour for lessons until my mid 20's. But until then, I rode, trained and cared for hundreds of horses in Florida and Kentucky. Often times, I spent more time with horses than their owners. The sweat I expended was a mild trade off for the healing I received in return from every single one of the horses I groomed, washed, fed, and tacked up. Even the ones who were.......spicy.

The gift of animals is not new to us. Animals have one of the greatest powers in relationships - unconditional love. Animals do not care for your religion, ethnicity, political beliefs or gender. They care about one thing....are you a safe person?

I am so honoured to be able to bring the power of co-regulation to another level for my clients.

Who is this for?

Anyone, really. For now, I'm working with clients aged 12+.

However the greatest impact lies with treating trauma or complex trauma, anxiety and self-esteem. Horses are prey animals so their sensitivity to threat is big but also, for the most part, their ability to regulate is like no other. So when it's hard to connect to our own capacity for nervous system regulation, they provide a unique opportunity to help you embody down regulating your brain and body. You can't fake it with horses. It's true magic.  You gotta see this. Actually, you gotta feel this.

What this is and what its not

You are NOT learning to ride. You are not sitting on the horses as I do not do therapeutic riding.

You are not alone with the animals, I am always there right next to you. It is gentle, you set the pace and rules of engagement for yourself as does the horse. I facilitate the interaction ensuring both of you are safe and respectful to each other.

Special considerations

Individuals must be able to:

  • get themselves to the location

  • wear appropriate outdoor attire

  • must have a pre-established therapeutic relationship with me

Sitting alongside someone while they transform themselves is an incredible honour.
